Beauty of Quantum to Penguin Press
25.05.10 | Benedicte Page
Penguin Press editorial director William Goodlad has bought a book by physicist and TV presenter Brian Cox and his colleague Jeff Forshaw designed to explain "the beauty of quantum mechanics".
The Quantum Universe will repeat Cox and Forshaw's pairing to explain Einstein's theory of relativity, Why Does E=MC²?
Goodlad bought UK and commonwealth rights in The Quantum Universe and a subsequent book from agent Diane Banks for a "substantial six-figure sum", with US rights going to Ben Schafer at Da Capo.
Goodlad called the authors "exceptional writers", saying: "The world is a far better place with them here to explain to us how it all works." Both Cox and Forshaw are physics professors at the university of Manchester, while Cox also presented the recent BBC TV series "The Wonders of the Solar System".
The Quantum Universe will be published by Allen Lane in 2011.
