Beautiful Books acquires UK rights in Schlink's essays
31.08.09 | Philip Jones
Simon Petherick of Beautiful Books has bought UK rights to Guilt about the Past, a collection of essays by the author of The Reader Bernhard Schlink.
Beautiful Books acquired UK rights from Madonna Duffy of University of Queesnland Press and will publish in paperback on 11th Feb 2010.
Based on the Weidenfeld lectures he delivered at Oxford University in 2008, the six essays look at the long shadow of past guilt that is a German experience as well as a global one. Schlink explores the phenomenon of guilt and how it attaches to a whole society, not just to individual perpetrators.
Beautiful Books is hoping to arrange speaking engagements for Professor Schlink in the UK post publication. His most recent literary novel was Homecoming, published by Weidenfeld and Nicolson in January 2008.
