BBC Books has acquired two titles by Toby Buckland, head presenter on BBC2's “Gardeners' World" as official “companion" titles to the series. The books will be the horticulturalist's first with the Random imprint.
Lorna Russell, BBC Books editorial director, acquired world rights to Gardeners' World: Practical Gardening Handbook—Traditional Techniques, Expert Skills, Innovative Ideas, and Gardeners' World: Projects and Planting from Greenacre from Luigi Bonomi at LBA. The first title will be published on 4th March 2010 as a £17.99 hardback, with the second lined up for 2011.
Buckland is the author of Octopus titles How to Make Your Garden Grow (Mitchell Beazley) and 50 Weekend Garden Projects and The Garden Makeover Book (both Cassell Illustrated).
Gardeners' World: Practical Gardening Handbook is a “complete guide to creating your own paradise" and will include projects, tips and step-by-step advice for gardeners “of all skills".
“I'm delighted to be given the opportunity to bring my gardening style to print," said Toby Buckland, who took over from Monty Don as head presenter in 2008, “I hope it encourages even more of the nation's gardeners to get outdoors and get hands-on in their own back yards and allotments."
