HarperCollins UK has donated £12,000 to Bag Books, a charity that seeks to bring stories to children with severe learning disabilities.
The funding was made available by HarperCollins’ parent company News Corp.
HarperCollins UK employees submitted charities for consideration and then voted on a final shortlist, with Bag Books coming out on top.
Bag Books storytellers perform stories for groups of children and grown-ups using specially-made objects they can touch, hear and smell, as well as training parents so that they can tell the stories to their children at home. The charity reaches around 19,000 children and adults throughout the UK annually.
Scott Pack, publisher at HarperCollins imprint the Friday Project and supporter of Bag Books said: “I cannot thank everyone at HarperCollins enough. This money will make a major difference to a very small charity. The kids they help will never be able to read one of the books we publish but, with this generous donation, the company has helped to ensure they can experience the joy and delight of a great story.”
Dean Caswell, chief executive of Bag Books said: "Many thanks to everyone at HarperCollins for this wonderful grant. As a small charity, it will make a big difference and will enable us to introduce hundreds more people with severe learning disabilities to the world of multi-sensory books."
