BA asks members to complete business rates survey

The Booksellers Association has called on members to fill in a survey backed by the British Retail Consortium as part of a campaign calling for lower business rates.

The BRC has teamed up with Retail Week to issue to a call to businesses to sign a petition calling for the government to reform the “outmoded” business system in the UK.

Business rates went up by 4.6% in 2011 and 5.6% in 2012, and are set to rise by a further 2.6 per cent next April.

As part of the campaign, the BRC is conducting a survey to find out how paying high business rates impacts on the health of small businesses.

Tim Godfray, chief executive of The Booksellers Association, said:  “The BA remains committed to lobbying for a freeze on business rates and has today supported the British Retail Consortium’s Business Rates Survey. We encourage members to highlight how rising business rates will affect booksellers by completing the survey before the deadline on Wednesday (21st November.) We also urge them to sign the Fair Rates for Retail petition if they have not already done so.”

All contributions to the survey are anonymous.
