Atlantic acquires Alastair Darling

Atlantic Books has bought the rights to a book by ex-chancellor of the exchequer Alistair Darling, which it claims will "put the reader inside the room during the most seismic economic crisis of modern times".

The book has the provisional title Back From the Brink and will be published in September next year. The title will be a "detailed first-person account of the 1,000 days around the economic crisis of 2008, into which is interwoven key events from his long and distinguished political career".

Toby Mundy, c.e.o. and publisher acquired world English language rights from Georgina Capel at the Capel and Land agency.

Mundy said: "This unique book will put the reader inside the room during the most seismic economic crisis of modern times and enable us to grasp, briefly, what the pressures of high office and the responsibilities of public service, really amount to during a national crisis."

He added: "Not only will Alistair Darling's book be a gripping drama in which the destinies of millions hang in the balance, but it is also a vital historical document. It will take the financial crisis – a story that people think they know something about – and make us see it entirely afresh from the perspective of someone at the epicentre of the storm."
