Arvon plans marathon fundraiser
13.12.12 | Charlotte Williams
Author David Varela is embarking on a live online writing marathon for 100 hours to raise money for national creative writing charity Arvon.
The project, called 100 Hours of Solitude, will take place at Arvon's writing centre at Lumb Bank in Yorkshire from midnight on 17th December until 4a.m. on 22nd December.
The event will be broadcast live online at www.100Hours.tv, with streaming video of the writer and every keystroke appearing on-screen as Varela types.
The author, who is a playwright, poet, screenwriter, radio dramatist, game producer, copywriter, speechwriter and lyricist, will be taking writing requests in return for donations.
All the text is being released under a creative commons zero licence, meaning it can be copied, remixed and republished without needing to credit the writer.
Arvon said it is aiming to raise £3,000 through the challenge, to support the organisation’s learning and participation work. Sponsors can pledge donations online at www.justgiving.com/100hoursofsolitude.
