Novelist and former English PEN president Lisa Appignanesi is to chair the judging panel for this year’s £4,000 Jewish Quarterly-Wingate Prize.
The rest of the panel comprises literary editor of the Sunday Telegraph Michael Prodger, Emily Kasriel executive producer at the BBC and Dr Daniel Glaser, head of special projects at the Wellcome Trust.
The prize, which is in its 34th year, is the only UK prize to recognise writing by Jewish and non-Jewish authors that "stimulates an interest in themes of Jewish concern while appealing to the general reader". The shortlist of four will be announced in April. The winner will be announced in May.
Previous winners include Amos Oz, Zadie Smith, Imre Kertesz, Oliver Sacks and Howard Jacobson.
