Amazon.co.uk starts Christmas campaign

Amazon has begun its UK festive promotion today (31st October), opening a Christmas store and revealing Steve Jobs’ biography is one of customers’ most wished-for items.

The company has revealed two of the top 10 most wanted items registered on customers’ Christmas wish lists are Steve Jobs: The Exclusive Biography by Walter Isaacson (Little, Brown) in hardback, in third position, and Great British Bake Off: How to Bake: The Perfect Victoria Sponge and Other Baking Secrets (BBC Books), also in hardback, in ninth place. Top of customers’ most wished-for products for Christmas is a Kindle and second is the DVD of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2".

Amazon also predicted Monday 5th December would incur its highest number of customer orders, with the most orders placed at 9pm.

Christopher North, managing director of Amazon.co.uk, said: “In recent years, the first Monday in December has been Amazon.co.uk’s busiest day with orders for over 2.3 million items being placed on Monday 6th December last year. Mondays remain the busiest shopping day in the run up to Christmas, but every day of that week will see high sales as more and more people have immediate access to shop online via home broadband and, increasingly, mobile devices.”

Well good. Is this news ?

I just wonder if they're a bit worried - seems an odd story to put with the trade press - are they trying to get customers to order away from those (claimed) peak times? And Kindles could be out of stock if a lot of orders are placed?

Why will Monday the 5th have the most orders placed at 9pm?
How do they know this?
What kind of heresy is this?!
Do they have a time machine?
Are they privy to some insight into the cosmos?!
I AM SCARED!
Somebody hold me.
