Amazon moves closer to Brazil e-book launch
16.01.12 | Bookseller Staff
Amazon has hired Mauro Widman as Kindle "vendor manager" in Brazil, to prepare for a launch into the country's e-book market.
According to a Publishing Perspectives report, Widman, whose previously worked on developing the e-book platform of Brazil's bookshop chain Livraria Cultura, started work at Amazon this week.
Presentations to Brazilian publishers are expected in in February.
Amazon met with many publishers in 2011 but failed to sign deals at the 70% discount it was seeking, according to the report.
The online retailer launched e-bookstores and the Kindle in both Spain and Italy last year.
