Amazon.co.uk has launched a two-week Kindle e-book promotion, with Michel Faber's The Crimson Petal and the White priced £1.47.
According to information sent to publishers whose books will feature, the campaign will be a "major" event in the Kindle store, following the pattern of the Christmas "12 Days of Kindle" promotion, which saw e-books priced at £1. That Kindle promotion saw a 363% uplift of sales for the e-books included plus an uplift for authors' non-promoted backlist.
The campaign represents the most aggressive price push on e-books by Amazon since the Kindle was launched in the UK 18 months ago, with the price of more than 200 e-books heavily discounted. Other titles in the promotion include Christos Tsiolkas' The Slap, priced £1.03, Anthony Horowitz's Stormbreaker, priced 95p, and William Boyd's Ordinary Thunderstorms, priced £1.23.
