Amazon Black Friday promotions underway
23.11.11 | Lisa Campbell
Amazon UK's week of Black Friday Deals is underway, so far offering over 60% discounts on book collections.
The internet retailer began the Black Friday promotion on Monday, where discounted products are offered to customers for a limited time at a limited quantity. Running until Friday, the company will offer over 500 deals across all its products. So far, a three-book box set of David Walliams children's books, Billionaire Boy, Boy in The Dress and Mr Stink, all illustrated by Quentin Blake (HarperCollins Children's Books), with an r.r.p of £20.97, has been offered at £7.99 a 62% discount.
The retailer is planning to run a deal on A Game of Thrones: The Story Continues: A Song of Ice and Fire: volumes 1-4 by George R.R Martin (Harper Voyager), with an r.r.p of £39.99 but Amazon has yet to reveal what the discount is. Other deals on the website include heavy discounts on electronic products, clothes and watches. Electronic retailer Comet is also offering five days of sales this week.
Christopher North, managing director of Amazon.co.uk, said: "Great bargains were flying off Amazon's virtual shelves last year as customers were quick to click to get a deal before the offer expire . . . Every year, towards the end of November, millions of shoppers on the other side of the Atlantic take advantage of the massive savings offered by retailers around 'Black Friday', the discount shopping day that follows Thanksgiving in America. 'Black Friday' signals the start of the Christmas shopping period in the US and it is reported that over $45bn (£28.87bn) was spent by shoppers in America over 'Black Friday' weekend in 2010."
