Alma Books has acquired a title about the royal families of Europe from The King's Speech author, Peter Conradi.
Director Alessandro Gallenzi bought world English language rights in the title from Andrew Nurnberg, with plans to publish The Great Survivors: How Monarchy made it into the 21st Century as a hardback and e-book on 2nd June 2012, to coincide with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
The book reveals the "scandals, excesses, conflicts and interests hidden behind the pomp of the ceremonial garb and the grandeur of official functions", and takes in royals and their loves, including Wallis Simpson, Grace Kelly and Princess Diana, as well as more obscure aristocratic figures.
Gallenzi said: "It's an important and at times controversial book that holds up an awkward mirror to the British royals and their extended family around Europe. I was engrossed by it from beginning to end, and read its 400 pages over one weekend—a very rare thing for a snail-like reader like me."
