Moshi Monsters creator Michael Acton Smith will be the keynote speaker at The Bookseller Children's Conference.
The founder and creative director of Mind Candy will address the conference to speak about what is and is not working in children's entertainment when it takes place at London's Southbank on 25th September.
Acton Smith co-founded online retailer Firebox.com, before setting up Mind Candy, an entertainment company which developed the Moshi Monsters brand, a website for children which allows users to choose a monster pet which they nurture and guide through games and puzzles, as well as engaging with other users. The brand has expanded across a range of merchandise, including magazines and toys, while Acton Smith was appointed OBE in the 2014 New Year's Honours list for his contribution to the UK's creative industries.
Alice Ryan, The Bookseller's conference and communities manager, said: "With the incredible success that Mind Candy has at building experiences and engaging with kids, we think it will be really exciting to hear his thoughts on what approaches are working and what aren’t. Michael will offer insights into how kids are engaging with some of the incredible brands that Mind Candy are developing and discuss the opportunities that digital offers."
The conference will focus throughout on what is working across children's publishing, with particular attention on data, trends and the market; connecting with younger audiences; thinking beyond the book; and big picture sessions looking at building brands and engaging with children.
Other speakers include authors Jeff Norton and Matt Haig, and The Bookseller's charts and data editor John Lewis. To buy tickets, and see a full line-up, visit the Children's Conference website.
