The A&C Black Music list, currently owned by Bloomsbury, is moving to HarperCollins, where it will become part of the Collins Learning division.
Bloomsbury declined to disclose the acquisition price or say what staff changes would occur following the sale.
However, Colin Hughes, m.d. of Collins, said: “We are delighted that the A&C Black Music list is moving to Collins where it finds a home alongside our primary publishing for a range of curriculum subjects. Collins has been publishing educational and informative books for almost 200 years and our existing sales and marketing reach in the UK and internationally will ensure that schools continue to access these popular resources easily, as well as reaching new teachers and pupils around the world.”
Jayne Parsons, publishing director for education at Bloomsbury, added: “Collins is an excellent new home, enabling the music list to continue to get books and content into the hands of more teachers, thereby moving closer to the goal of making music an integral part of every school’s day.”
The A & C Black publishing company was founded in 1807 in Edinburgh and moved to London in 1889, where it published the first book by P G Wodehouse. It was acquired by Bloomsbury in 2000.
