Abacus acquires rights to "unusual tale"
26.10.12 | Charlotte Williams
Little, Brown imprint Abacus has acquired a debut novel by Natalia Sanmartin Fenollera, The Awakening of Miss Prim, with rights also sold so far in Germany, US/Canada, Italy and Spain.
Commissioning editor Rowan Cope bought UK and Commonwealth rights in the title in a deal with Ludovic Assemat of Dos Passos Literary Agency in Madrid.
The book follows Miss Prudencia Prim, "an independent, exquisite and very accomplished young woman", as she takes a job as a librarian in a grand house in San Ireneo de Arnois, "a charming little town where nothing is how it seems."
Cope said: "I'm delighted and very much looking forward to working on this charming, unusual tale that has real heart. It's about literature, philosophy, friendship and, most importantly, love."
The novel will be published in Germany by Thiele Verlag, in the USA/Canada by Atria Books, by Mondadori in Italy and Planeta in Spain.
