Aitken Alexander Associates is opening an office in New York this summer, which will be headed up by Anna Stein, who joins the agency on 1st June.
Stein has worked for the last four years with the Irene Skolnick Agency, where she oversaw foreign rights sales as well as growing her own list of clients, who include Chloe Aridjis, Claire Dederer, Yoko Ogawa, Peter Terzian and Anya Ulinich.
Working closely with the agency in London, she will provide on-the-ground advocacy for AAA clients. She will also develop her own list of US-based clients, who will in turn be looked after by AAA in the UK.
Gillon Aitken, chairman of AAA, said: "In what is a period of change for our industry there are many challenges, but there are also opportunities. As our markets grow ever closer, we believe this is an auspicious moment to expand our presence in the US, and we are delighted that Anna is joining us."
Clare Alexander, managing director, added: "We have always prided ourselves on offering our authors the best service in diverse markets, including translation. Given the rate of change in the industry, we feel the time is right to enhance Aitken Alexander’s ability to offer advice and representation on both sides of the Atlantic."
Stein said she had "long admired Aitken Alexander for their outstanding list and exceptional expertise" and that she "couldn’t be more honored to join them".
