Almond moves into adult fiction

David Almond is moving into adult fiction with agent Catherine Clarke of Felicity Bryan having just concluded a deal for UK rights in two books by the Skellig author.

One of the titles may also be published separately for the young adult market. The second book has not yet been written. Hodder is understood not to be in the running for the books.

Clarke will be offering other rights at Frankfurt and is anticipating a "lot of excitement".

Almond is "keeping his options open" on whether or not to write again for the children's and young adult market, said Clarke.

He is writing Mina's Story, a prequel to Skellig, his first children's book, which Hodder will publish in 2010. Clarke said: "He's not decided on plans beyond that in the children's market."
