IPA shortlist introduces new award

A new category for Specialist Consumer Publisher has been introduced for this year’s Independent Publishers Awards, taking place once again in Brighton.

A total of 15 firms have been shortlisted for nine awards at what will be the third annual awards, organised by the Independent Publishers Guild in conjunction with The Bookseller and the London Book Fair. Punk Publishing and Top That! have picked up three nominations each, while Michael O’Mara, Alastair Sawday, Earthscan, Summersdale and Willan Publishing are up for two awards each.

Bridget Shine, executive director of the IPG, said: “These shortlists show the wonderful strength and diversity of independent publishing in every sector, and prove that small and medium-size companies are in great shape despite all the current challenges in the industry.”

There are a further three categories which have no shortlist—the Diversity Award, the Services to Independent Publishers Award, which is derived from online nominations, and the van Tulleken Independent Publisher of the Year, which will be selected from the winners of the Trade, Children’s, Academic & Professional, Education and Specialist Consumer categories. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner, on 7th March. Go to www.ipg.uk.com for more.
