Battle of Bonds begins
Sean Connery looks set to loose the battle of the Bond books, in which he is pitted against fellow Bond actor Roger Moore.
According to the Daily Telegraph, "Being A Scot, Sir Sean's new book [published by Weidenfeld], has sold only 5,000 copies since its release in August, with sales dwindling to fewer than 500 per week".
It contains little reference to the actor's years starring as 007, whereas Sir Roger's biography, My Word is My Bond, which was released last week, is replete with anecdotes spanning his seven decades in the entertainment industry.
The newspaper reports that Sir Sean's book was being outsold last week by a ratio of 14-to-one by the memoirs of TV chef Clarissa Dickson Wright, which was released last year. Despite this, a spokesman for Sir Sean said he was “delighted” with the way Being a Scot had been received.
But a spokesman for Michael O'Mara, Sir Roger's publishers, "laughed when he heard Sir Sean's sales figures and said he was 'very confident' his client's book would sell more".
