Fat Pets let loose by Fourth Estate
22.09.08 Victoria Gallagher
Plump pussies and hefty hounds will be weighing down booksellers’ shelves this Christmas with the publication by Fourth Estate of Fat Pets.
The book by Professor J D Scoffbowl is a pictorial collection of overweight cats, dogs, rabbits and even hedgehogs. The title has a selection of the fat animals of today, as well as a variety of old black and white pictures of big pets dating back as far as the 1930s.
The book contains pets that have hit the headlines in the past for their weight issues, including Hercules, the giant cat who got wedged in a neighbour’s cat flap after trying to steal food. As well as Tiddles, the 32lb puss, who lived in the ladies toilets at Paddington Station and won the
1982 London’s Fattest Cat contest.
John Elliott, commissioning editor at Fourth Estate described the book as "a lot of fun," and said it would have a broad appeal. "I’ve had so many people emailing pictures of fat animals over to me saying ‘have a look at this’. Plus everyone loves animals," said Elliott.
The title will be released on 3rd November in hardback and will be "stocking-able in size". The price has yet to be finalised, but will not exceed £9.99, Elliott added.
