Bridge quits Woolies for Apple
09.09.08 Graeme Neill
Woolworths' book product manager Matt Bridge is leaving the retailer on 19th September to take a position at Apple Inc. Bridge will be temporarily replaced by Al Burks, product manager for games, while the chain finds a replacement.
Gerry Berkley, trading manager for games and books, said that the move would not affect the chain's plans for Christmas. "In his short time at Woolworths Bridge has made a major impact and has worked hard to take our book offer forward," he said.
Bridge joined the chain in October 2007 from Borders where he was airports buyer. He previously worked at W H Smith. At Apple, Bridge will be a software buyer for its European stores.
JP Hunting from Entertainment UK will work alongside Burks on the selection process for titles. Assistant buyer Nicholas Yeowell will continue to manage the children's books category and will report to Burks.
