Waterstone's sells 50 Sonys at Piccadilly

Waterstone's sold 50 Sony Readers at its flagship Piccadilly store on the device's launch day.

The Guardian reported that it had sold "just two" after one hour on sale at the former Simpson's shop in central London.

But the retail confirmed that it had actually shifted 50, following a full day's trading.

The bookseller has yet to reveal figures for the rest of the chain: the device was launched in more than 200 shops last Thursday (4th September), with pre-orders already in the "thousands", according to its m.d. Gerry Johnson.

The chain is expected to reveal further sales figures later in the week. Waterstone's has the exclusive merchandising rights in the UK for two weeks from launch, to 19th September.

Many branches across the uk report that they could have sold many more, had they been sent more than 5. Those that have sold out can now only place reserve orders for further stock (no date on when available) but as many buyers are aware that it is only exclusive for 2 weeks they expect other electrical retailers to have it soon and to be knocking a bit of money off. You should also consider what the supermarkets could do with this also.

I work for Curry's and as far as I know we aren't expecting any - not that I would be told anyway. The first I get to hear about things like this is when we unload the lorry ! Will be keeping an eye on our intranet though ...

Well, I got mine via their website, definitely worth it for me, I didn't really expect it to sell that well over here though to be honest!
