Tellkamp and co make German book prize list
Titles by Marcel Beyer, Peter Handke, Ingo Schulze and Uwe Tellkamp have made it onto the longlist for this year's Deutscher Buchpreis, Germany's equivalent of the Man Booker Prize.
The longlist of 20 was selected from 161 titles—145 were submitted by publishers and 16 were called in.
Rainer Moritz, spokesman for the judges, said: "The judges were fortunate in having to choose from a large number of novels well worth reading. Overall, it seems to me as if contemporary literature is opening up more and showing a more strong-willed intent of its own again."
A shortlist of six will be revealed on 17th September. The winner is announced on 13th October to mark the start of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
