Russell T Davies, Jenni Murray and Penny Jordan are among the speakers at this October's Manchester Literature Festival. The 11-day event will begin with a talk by bestselling American author Anita Shreve. She will be interviewed by the journalist Lynne Walker at the event at the Dancehouse Theatre.
On the same night there will also be a special poetry karaoke evening featuring poets Patience Agbabi, Caroline Bird and John McAuliffe. Held at Tiger Tiger to coincide with National Poetry Day, the poets will give intimate readings of their work and then attendees will be able to perform
classic poems from a specially prepared list.
Among the other highlights include authors Mavis Cheek, Christina Jones and Penny Jordan discussing the role of romance within modern fiction at Tiger Tiger on 18th October.
"Doctor Who" writer Russell T Davies will hold a discussion of new writers at the Cornerhouse on 20th October. Broadcaster Jenni Murray will discuss her new book, Memoirs of a Not So Dutiful Daughter, on 16th October at the Midland Hotel.
"With events ranging from past crimes to a place for romance and literature in translation to children’s fiction, the programme caters for all literary palates," said Cathy Bolton, festival director.
