Internet drives Edinburgh Book Festival sales
An internet-fuelled shopping spree has led to more than 300 shows at the Edinburgh International Book Festival selling out ahead of its first day on Saturday.
The Scotsman reports that tickets sales for the festival, which includes appearances by James Kelman, AL Kennedy and Irvine Welsh, are eight per cent up on this time last year. Internet ticket sales are up by a third.
Catherine Lockerbie, director of the festival, told the newspaper that many more events would sell out before Saturday. "Irvine never sells out by this stage because his readers don't book so much in advance – they come on the day," she said.
