THP sells series to Crimson
04.08.08 Victoria Arnstein
Crimson Publishing has acquired the Pathfinder and Short Walks series from The History Press for a “substantial, undisclosed sum”. Initially launched jointly by Jarrold Publishing and Ordnance Survey, these are practical guides to walking in the UK.
Crimson m.d., David Lester, said: “I have long admired this series, which I plan to nurture and grow. It is a natural fit with our recently launched The Best of Britain regional guidebook series, and we will look to link the two series from here on.”
Tony Morris, chief executive of The History Press, added: “We are delighted Pathfinder has found such a good home. At The History Press we are systematically focusing our core business and strengthening our position [in] local and specialist history.
“The money released from the sale of Pathfinder will be used to launch three new local history series. We will also be investing more in our international businesses and remain absolutely committed to paying off the historic royalties owed by the former NPI Media Group.”
The Pathfinder series comprises 54 guides covering almost all of mainland Britain complete with Ordnance Survey mapping, details of where to park, points of interest, refreshments and original photography. The Short Walks series comprises 34 guides to the most popular areas of Britain, targeting families with younger children and older people no longer able to contemplate longer walks.
Sales and distribution for the series will be handled by Portfolio Books with immediate effect.
