29.07.08 Catherine Neilan
Author, broadcaster and consultant Jo Hemmings has been appointed publisher of Octopus imprint and illustrated specialist Hamlyn. Hemmings, who is due to take up the role on 18th August, has worked previously as a consultant to a number of publishers, including Dorling Kindersley and Carlton. Prior to that, she was editorial director at New Holland.
Alison Goff, Octopus c.e.o., said the firm was very pleased with the hire. "[Hemmings] will undoubtedly deliver real vigour and passion to the list, building on its heritage and delivering success for the future," she said.
Hemmings added: "I am thrilled to be joining Hamlyn at such a key stage in the future development of the Octopus Publishing Group. I am relishing the opportunity of getting back into helping to create and maintain such a successful, diverse and significant list."
Hamlyn covers a wide range of books, including lifestyle, health, cookery, gardening, arts, crafts, mind-body-spirit, sports, skills, parenting, film, music and DIY.
Recent successes have included the launch of the All Colour 200 cookery series and Top 10 for Men – an extension of the Top 10 of Everything brand, which was a bestseller over Father’s Day this year.
