LP opens first 'concept store'

Lonely Planet will open its first Lonely Planet concept store in Sydney Airport next year, as part of the new international terminal redevelopment.

In a partnership with Lagardère Services Asia Pacific, the travel publishing group aims to target the 10 million international travellers who pass the airport each year, with a range of LP travel guides, phrasebooks, pictorials and reference books as well as travel accessories and gift items.

The store will also feature new media systems such as online interactive portals showcasing Lonely Planet’s digital content, and staff will have specialist travel knowledge.

The store will be a 90-square-metre retail space, designed by design group Studio Red .

Lonely Planet sales and marketing Director, Howard Ralley, said: “The opening of the first Lonely Planet store is an exciting evolution for our brand. It’s something we’ve discussed for some time.”
