Potter 'deluxe' sells for £17,800
A set of Harry Potter "deluxe" first editions was auctioned for £17,800 yesterday (1st July), reports the Guardian.
Cameo Fine Art Auctioneers in Midgham saw their internet bidding software briefly threaten to crash under the weight of people trying to register. One anonymous overseas buyer had left a big enough advance bid with the auctioneer to secure the books.
The lots were not "true" first editions, but firsts in Bloomsbury's "deluxe" range, which the publisher only began printing in 1999 after the Potter spell was already widespread.
