Martin moves to Collins
19.06.08 Graeme Neill
James Martin is moving from Octopus to Collins after the publisher paid a six-figure sum for three new books by the TV chef.
The deal for world rights, which Collins described as "lucrative", was negotiated by Jenny Heller with Fiona Lindsay from Limelight Management. The first book, Driven, will be a memoir, told through Martin's love of cars; he also writes a motoring column for the Daily Mail. It will be published in December to coincide with a new BBC programme from Martin.
"The story is told through his passion for cars and how this love affair has driven all of his life choices. It's a terrific read and will appeal equally to both women and men," Heller said.
This will be followed by two cookery books. Martin first appeared on TV as a chef on "Ready Steady Cook" in 1996. He is also the host of BBC Saturday morning cookery show "Saturday Kitchen", which has viewing figures of 2.1 million, and has been a contestant on "Strictly Come Dancing".
