Rosoff grows up
Meg Rosoff's Carnegie-shortlisted novel What I Was, published by Puffin last year, is to be released in an adult edition from Penguin in August.
Viking publisher Venetia Butterfield said she decided to release the adult edition (£6.99, p/b) after reading Rosoff's novels for the first time. "Francesca [Dow, Puffin publisher] came to talk to me about them. I read them all, and think they are fantastic novels. To me they don't read as if geared to the young adult market. They have very adult themes and I love the atmosphere."
Rosoff's début, How I Live Now, was sold in the adult as well as the children's market, but only produced in a single edition. What I Was is being given an entirely new jacket treatment for its adult release, and Penguin hopes to get reviews for it on the adult pages. "We've got Anna Ridley, our literary publicist, working to get it reviews," Butterfield said. "Meg is also doing literary festivals and we are getting her to reading groups."
