Walker drinks to Starbucks
16.06.08 Tom Holman
Walker Books and Starbucks will roll out a new promotion this summer as part of the National Year of Reading.
The initiative will see Walker distribute 200,000 free samplers of books by Cassandra Clare, Patrick Ness and Mal Peet in branches of the coffee shop chain. Starbucks will also run a competition among members of its card scheme to offer 15 grants of £1,000, available to spend on books for the primary school of the winners' choosing.
The initiative continues Starbucks' work with the National Literacy Trust that has seen it distribute free books to children, parents and schools and sign up new members to public libraries.
Jonathan Douglas, director of the NLT, said: "Our partnership with Starbucks is an excellent example of how the corporate sector can take a leading role in addressing the national challenge of literacy, both during the National Year of Reading and beyond." Walker Books has been a major contributor in the past to the chain's 'Bookdrive' scheme to donate books to schools.
