Dead Simple series set for ITV

Peter James has signed a deal with ITV Productions to turn his Brighton-set Roy Grace series of books (Pan) into a long-running TV series.

ITV Productions will develop a screenplay, starting with an adaptation of Dead Simple into three one-hour episodes. Although a broadcaster has not yet been signed, ITV Productions envisages the programme will become a long-running series, with new storylines to be created by James when the existing Roy Grace books—Dead Simple, Looking Good Dead, Not Dead Enough and the new Dead Man’s Footsteps—have been filmed.

James, who is also a producer of films such as “The Merchant of Venice” and “Head in the Clouds”, will act as co-executive producer with Keith Richardson. The pair are working with BAFTA-winning writer Neil McKay on the first script.

James said: “This deal is fantastic news, especially for fans of Roy Grace, who have been asking me for ages now what plans there were for him to appear on television. This production team is probably the finest in the country, and with [its] support, the TV series stands the best chance possible of making it to air and becoming a huge hit.”
