Rowling not taking action against map publisher

Claims that J K Rowling is suing the publishers of the London Star Map, a foldout map highlighting the residencies of various famous people in London, have been refuted by her lawyers.

Reports have appeared on various gossip websites stating that Rowling planned to take legal action against the publisher Void, whose London Star Map is available in Foyles, Harrods and on Amazon.co.uk.

A statement also reported to be from the star said: “The sole aim of London Star Map is self-evidently to incite, encourage and enable members of the public to track down and locate the exact location of private residences of various recognisable 'celebrities' so that they can visit those residences.”

The statement reportedly added that she is a “very private individual who regards her family’s privacy and safety as having paramount importance”.

Shillings Lawyers, the firm acting for the author, said reports that Rowling was suing the company were false and that she had issued no statement. The note issued by the law firm said the original press release was published by London Star Maps and disseminated by the WENN news agency, but was immediately retracted after contact from Shillings.

No one from Void was available for comment and no press release was available on its website.

The popout format of the London Star Map is licensed from Compass Maps, the company now owned by Morris Communications that has taken legal action against GeoCenter International over the design of its Pocket Maps.
