Bestselling novelist Lisa Jewell is leaving Penguin for Random House. Arrow publishing director Kate Elton has bought UK and Commonwealth rights in three novels from the author through Jonny Geller of Curtis Brown.
Jewell’s first novel for Century will be The Secret History of Melody Browne, to be published in April 2009, with an Arrow paperback coming the following year. Jewell will then return to the characters of her hit début, Ralph’s Party, for her next novel, scheduled for April 2010.
Elton said Jewell had long been one of her favourite writers, commenting “I’m very proud to be adding an author of her stature to the list.”
Louise Moore, m.d. of Michael Joseph, said: “Lisa is leaving Penguin on a high, having enjoyed four weeks in the top 10 with her paperback of 31 Dream Street. We wish her all the best in her continuing career.”
