Wise new indie to launch
03.06.08 Alison Flood
Wise Dog Books, a new independent publishing company, has been set up by brand management consultant Victoria Barry, with its first titles due out this autumn.
Barry, who is the m.d. of Red Carpet Marketing and a former journalist, will launch Wise Dog in September with BookDiary 2009. The £18.99 paperback is a “book of books”, including recommendations, space for note-taking and information about literary festivals, prizes, authors and websites, plus lists of reading suggestions.
“We’re aiming at the cool accessories market; this is a paperback so it can be carried around,” said Barry. The book will be published annually.
BookDiary will be followed in October by BookTraveller World, the first in a series of reading guides for different destinations. BookTraveller Spain and BookTraveller New York will be published early next year, offering ideas for fiction and travel literature from particular areas, information about world literary events, and notes about writers and their work. Barry hopes to publish around four destination BookTraveller titles a year; BookTraveller World will be more general, featuring titles about journeys and travel. Distribution is through Gardners.
