New Scottish book award launched

Cowalfest, a Walking and Arts festival, has launched a new book award to celebrate the life and writing of Scottish writer Robin Jenkins.

With a £5,000 prize for a work of either fiction or non-fiction, the Robin Jenkins Literary Award was launched at the National Library of Scotland last week.

Sponsored by Forestry Commission Scotland, the award is managed by Cowalfest, a festival in the Cowal Peninsula, where Jenkins lived and wrote for 32 years.

A key theme of submissions for the award must be Scotland's environment, trees and forestry, explained Russell Bruce, chair of Cowalfest.

The judging panel comprises broadcast and writer Brian Morton, Alan Taylor, editor of the Scottish Review of Books, Isobel Murray of the School of Language and Literature at University of Aberdeen and travel writer Katie Wood.
