Film competition from Barefoot

Barefoot Books is launching a storytelling competition this week, inviting children aged up to 14 years old from across Europe to film their performance of a story and to post the performance online.

The regional phase of the Barefoot Books Young Storyteller competition will be judged entirely online, with children's storytelling videos uploaded at www.barefootbooks.com for public voting. Children can film their performance of a story at home or through participating schools, libraries or bookstores.
Barefoot will be working with independent book and gift stores to create window displays and set up local competitions, and is in discussion with the chains about their involvement, said Suzanne Gaved, PR and branding associate for Barefoot.

Barefoot will also work with "grass roots" educational partners including Peters Bookselling Services and the Schools Library Service and is targeting 1,000 schools to get involved.

Regional finalists will take part in a workshop with storyteller Daniel Morden. A panel of judges will choose the final winner who will be taken to New York to perform a story in Barefoot's boutique at the FAO Schwarz toy store. The winner's school will win £1,000 of books for their school library.
