Distribution centre 'on track', says Johnson
29.05.08 Graeme Neill
Waterstone's m.d. Gerry Johnson has said that progress on its new consolidation centre is going well, despite the fact that the date for testing has been put back. The retailer had originally mooted that the centre, based in Burton upon Trent, would begin testing by supplying books to the Burton upon Trent branch from Saturday. However, this date has now been pushed back to June.
The retailer intends to supply all 320 of its stores with books by September. "Our priority is rigorous testing to make sure the ultimate launch goes smoothly," Johnson said. "Progress has been good, although the workload in the systems arena remains very heavy. Without conceding any testing or pilot time we remain on track for an August/September launch across the whole chain, with the pilots beginning in June."
