Kids website grows into books
Patrick Walsh at Conville & Walsh has struck two deals in the last week for parenting website www.raisingkids.co.uk, with blogger Charlotte Moerman signing up with Virgin, and Vermilion swooping on two books drawing content from the site.
In one of her first acquisitions for Virgin, Louisa Joyner bought UK and Commonwealth rights in Moerman's Instructions Not Included: The Life of an Everyday Mum for a "modest" sum. "It's an incredibly -honest, brilliantly chaotic account of going from being an individual to becoming a mum. She makes you feel you're not on your own." Joyner said. Virgin will publish in February 2009.
In a separate deal, Walsh also sold two books by the site's founder Dr Pat Spungin to Clare Hulton at Vermilion. Raising Babies and Raising Toddlers, due for publication in May and September next year respectively, will use content from the site with additional new comment, according to Holton. The deal was also for UK and Commonwealth rights.
