Blue Peter to Booktrust
20.05.08 Caroline Horn
Booktrust is to take on the administration of the Blue Peter Book Awards next year, which will also mark Blue Peter's 50th anniversary. The organisation says it will work to raise the profile of the prize.
The awards were launched in 2000 with three categories: Book I Couldn't Put Down, Best Book with Facts and Most Fun Story with Pictures. A panel of young viewers picks the overall winner, the Blue Peter Book of the Year.
Blue Peter announced earlier this month that it would change the date of the announcement of the winner of its book award to spring 2009, rather than this autumn, to coincide with World Book Day. Publishers are asked to submit books published in paperback between 1st November 2007 and 31st October 2008 before 30th June.
Booktrust previously administered the Nestlé Children's Book Prize, which ended in January. In a statement issued at the time, Booktrust said it was reviewing "how prizes and awards fit its strategic objectives".
