Gollancz wins design award
20.05.08 Graeme Neill
Orion has been awarded the prestigious D&AD Yellow Pencil award for its design of the Gollancz Future Classics range.
The covers of the science fiction imprint feature unique special effects, including flock, glow-in-the-dark ink, holograms and heat impressions, in place of regular cover artwork.
Creative director Lucie Stericker was given the award at the D&AD awards on Thursday at London's Royal Festival Hall. “This is the highlight of my career so far,” said Stericker. “It’s fantastic to work with such a highly creative and forward thinking team, and to see such lovely work recognized by our creative peers.”
The award marks the first time the book industry has been commended since 2005. Three hundred judges across 30 specialist juries are asked to give awards to designs that are highly original, well executed and relevant to its context. However, there are no set number of awards given each year.
