Pearson plot for Conran
Television gardener and Observer writer Dan Pearson has been signed by Conran Octopus to give his take on urban gardening.
Conran paid a “healthy five-figure sum” for world rights in Pearson’s Home Ground, which is due in 2010 and which will draw on Pearson’s experience of designing, planting and tending his own city plot.
The book will be Pearson’s second with Conran Octopus. A decade ago the imprint published The Essential Garden Book, which he co-wrote with Terence Conran. Pearson has also written A Year at Home Farm (Ebury), which first appeared in late 2001, accompanying a BBC series.
Jane Smith, group head of marketing and publicity at Octopus, said: “For Conran it’s about working with big names. Terence is interested in working with the very best, and Dan fits that really well.”
The deal was struck with Borra Garson at Deborah McKenna.
