Depp's brother signs with S&S
Johnny Depp's brother is launching his literary career with Simon & Schuster with the publication of his first novel in spring 2009. Loser's Town by Daniel Depp will be published in hardback and is about private investigator David Spandau, who is called in once a Hollywood actor starts getting death threats.
British rights were bought by Kate Lyall-Grant, senior fiction editor, for an undisclosed sum at auction from Meg Davis at MBA Literary Agents. A pre-empt deal with Simon & Schuster US was made via Donald Maass. Canadian rights have been acquired by Penguin via Sarah Heller, and French rights were sold at auction to Presses de la Cité by Lora Fountain.
"With his background as scriptwriter and producer, Daniel brings a unique authority to this material," said Davis. "There is keen enthusiasm for the quality of his writing, which has enormous depth and heart, and a rich sense of humour."
