Penguin in Star Wars plans
07.05.08 Anna Richardson
The Penguin Group will publish a series of books based on the upcoming feature film and television series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars". The books will be launched this summer, in advance of the 15th August US release of the film.
The programme spans imprints within the US's Penguin Young Readers Group, as well as Dorling Kindersley and the UK Penguin group. The deal is the first global licensed publishing programme based on the Lucasfilm franchise.
"The Clone Wars" takes place between Episodes II and III of the Stars Wars saga and will be released in the US by Warner Bros in August, before going on worldwide release. It will be followed by a US, prime-time TV series in the autumn.
Debra Dorfman, president and publisher of Grosset & Dunlap and Price Stern Sloan in the US, saiad: “Our entire group was creatively and emotionally invested in putting together the publishing and marketing plans for Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This is one of the most exciting events in licensing in a really long time.”
Alex Allan, category publisher DK licensing, added: “we have had a long, creative partnership with Lucasfilm that has been wonderfully collaborative and fruitful. The Clone Wars franchise has exciting new content that is sure to appeal to a new generation of young readers around the world".
