Crossley-Holland books to Quercus
Quercus has bought world rights in a two-volume Viking adventure story from 2008 Carnegie short-listed author Kevin Crossley-Holland.
Bought direct from Crossley-Holland, the books centre on Inga, a spirited girl who follows her Viking mercenary father to Constantinople, where she is thrown into the tumult of the Viking body guard and the court of the Byzantine Princess.
The story spans Norway, Russia and Constantinople. The first book will be published in 2010 and the second in 2011.
Roisin Heycock, children’s editorial director, said: "This is such a rich and exciting subject for a children’s adventure story and very timely; there is a lot of interest at the moment in powerful stories inspired by myth, legend and ancient world."
Quercus have also acquired Crossley-Holland’s memoir of childhood, The Hidden Roads, for publication in 2009.
