How to market to teens
The School Library journal takes a look at how to market to teens, with advice on how libraries can entice them, without the use of expensive marketing campaigns.
The article mentions successful campaigns, such as the TV series "Gossip Girl", which spread with the help of teen blogs and iTunes, as well as Penguin Books' initiative to give teenagers a chance to design their own book covers, and Penguin UK's new teen website Spinebreakers which is run by children between the ages of 13 and 18.
Advice to those trying to market to teenagers includes "don't sweat the design", "know your audience", "don't try to hard to be cool" and "support causes that kids care about".
