Brand role for Bradley at HC

BCA head of fiction Kate Bradley is joining HarperCollins in the newly created role of publishing brand manager. The position will see Bradley working with authors and "helping to manage their publishing", as well as liaising with the marketing team on the branding of HC's bestselling authors.

She will report to Lynne Drew and Julia Wisdom in the HarperFiction division, working on key women’s fiction, crime and thriller authors, with a brief to explore building communities of fans, digital formats, franchise opportunities and backlist possibilities. She starts in July.

Her appointment follows the news that former Transworld publisher Patrick Janson-Smith is to join HarperCollins to head up a new imprint, Blue Door. Former Tesco book buyer Caroline Ridding joined HC in 2007 to run commercial imprint Avon.

Drew said: "Great writing, and good storytelling, are at the heart of our business, and the ways in which we publish and reach readers are changing. Reflecting this, it's been incredibly stimulating to begin running some focused brand teams over the past year and a very creative process. We couldn't think of anyone better than Kate, who is a passionate advocate of good books, to take this work forwards in her new role, working with authors, helping to drive their publishing, and bringing fresh sales and marketing expertise."

Bradley added: "This role is a dream come true for me - to be at the beating heart of commercial fiction publishing and with such a calibre of authors and publishers. I am looking forward to working with the team and across functions to build a solid platform for growth. The current dynamics of the marketplace offer a wealth of opportunity to reach new readers and to develop new strategies. We intend to be at the forefront of innovative brand development."
