Authors to work in indie bookshops
Authors including Gyles Brandreth and Alan Titchmarsh will be put to work in independent bookshops as part of this summer's Independent Booksellers Week. The nationwide week of events will take place from 1st–8th July with 231 shops signed up to take part so far. Jacqueline Wilson will be the figurehead of the campaign, which is being organised by the BA.
Bookshops will hold a range of events throughout the week, with authors signed up for a "Strictly Come Bookselling" day, where they will become a bookseller in an independent.
Titchmarsh will be in the Little Green Dragon (Alton); Brandreth and James Naughtie will work in Barnes Bookshop and Kew Bookshop (London); Leslie Thomas in the Torbay Bookshop (Paignton); and Lesley Pearse will sell books at a shop in the Bath/Bristol area. Also taking part are Mark Billingham and Joseph O'Connor.
